Atrani is an extension of Amalfi really, and was indeed another part of the maritime republic,with a similarly styled church sporting another set of bronze doors from Constantinople, manufactured in 1086. Its a quiet place, which benefits from all the attention bestowed upon its neighbour, with a pretty, almost entirely enclosed little square, Piazza Umberto, leading onto a usually gloriously quiet ( and free ) patch of sandy beach / sea - hard to believe the bustle of Amalfi is just around the corner. Travelling through Italy Florence & Rome, another good reason for coming here is that it has a great place to stay! The SCALINATELLA, is a welcoming, family-run establishment that offers fantastic-value hostel beds and regular personal rooms in various individual buildings around town. The same people as well own the Piazzetta restaurant on the main square, wich has good, moderately priced food and offers a special low-priced student menu.
