Prices From $28.52, £16.13, €22.50 Accommodation Type: GUESTHOUSE Casa Salto del Caballo La Fontanera s/n Valencia de Alcantara Finca was built around 1880, with amazing views towards the Serra de S. Mamede natural park in Portugal. Our visitorhouse is located 10 km. from Valencia de Alc ntara at the end of the little village of La Fontanera, directly on the border with Portugal. Just getting to this little 19th century rural house is a pleasure in itself, as it involves pa ing through some lovely gentle countryside and hills. Once there, however, the visitor will surely not be disappointed, for this is a superbly restored accommodation with the added bonus of having some individual characteristics. Firstly, it is slap bang on the Spanish Portuguese border. You can literally come in from the Spanish side and walk out through the other doors onto the splendid S o Mamede Natural Park in Portugal. We have 3 double rooms with bathrooms, accompanied near a lovely terrace and grounds with swimming pool. Our visitorhouse boasts a family ambience, with a breakfast and dining room and a sitting room inclusive with fireplace. A continental breakfast is included. The whole house is very rustic and authentically 'rural'. We have no air-conditioning, mini-bar or sky Television. We as well have a self-catering apartment offered for 4-5 visitors. The apartment is of course furnished, which includes a kitchen, with oven and hob, hot water, toaster, coffeemaker, kettle, dishes and cutlery. The heating is powered near a wood-burning stove and electric radiators. The delightful owner, Eva, is a well know dietician in her own right and the vegetarian food on offer bears her own imprint. Our Estremadura cuisine is simple and rich and based on quality products: Olive oil, Iberico, Retinto (products of famous locally bred pork and beef), grounds vegetables, freshly picked fruit, are all ingredients of scrumptious dishes such as: Gazpacho, Caldereta, roasts, torijas, and perrunillas complemented with wines of Ribera del Guadiana. Trekking is po ible on sign-posted tracks or with a local guide (trekking bikes can be hireed). Cycling and horse riding are offered within 4km distance. The Golf Ammaia Club de Golf de Marv o is 5km away. Places to see in the vicinity include Castelo de Vide,Marv o in Portugal, and the Dolmen Routes, important megalithic monuments in the vicinity. Cac res is as well nearbynear, where you can visit many old palaces, towers, churches and convents from the 14th and 16th Centuries. |
