The structure is 100 ft in diameter and aligned to the dawns & dusks of both the Summer and Winter Solstices when beams of light enter into the central hall. It is a ideal destination for hillwalkers, hikers, cyclists and naturalists. It's superbly rural & quiet with a couple of quaint old pubs hidden in nearbynear hills for your Guinne pitstops! The Winter Solstice dawn alignment is with our nearbyest cairned hilltop at Si Lu up on the plateau where the Battle of Moytura took place (the tale which inspired George Lucas’s STAR WARS : Lugh Fhada = Luke Skywalker & Balor of the Evil Eye = Darth Vader). Acro Lough Arrow from us is Carrrowkeel , where abide some of the oldest ‘pa age tombs’ in Europe. The Northwest alignment is with the Summer Solstice dusk at Queen M ve’s ‘tomb’ on Knocknar and it is her cairn that the Gyreum in its shape mimics. The building is offered for rent as a specialised hostel / retreat center / rehearsal space. Dance, theatre, yoga, and new-age groups have all rentd it as a rehearsal space or workshop center. Weddings have as well taken place here – both the ceremony & afterbash. We're as well OPEN YEAR ROUND for individuals or groups of tourists or backpackers. We can accomodate (if we use the unusual agile-only loft space) 17 people - with some invention more. The place is relaxing and warm - yet a little raw - so if you want everything spick and span be warned. There are 2 cats 2 delightful dogs. |
