Please Note: Hynes hostel is situated 1 hour outside Galway town. This is a family run hostel with an international reputation. Having stayed at Tom & Freddie Hynes Hostel, I know why it is so popular - not just with the Irish Hosteller but with people from all over the world. The reason for this almost cult-like love and appreciation for Hynes, I have come to realise, is because when you stay at Hynes Hostel you are treated like a member of the family. You are given a huge welcome. You can unwind in the Hynes family lounge (with Sky T.V). You can cook or prepare your own food in the Hynes family kitchen - sure, you can even get a filling home-cooked meal from Freddie herself (youll not go hungry) while you unwind in the Bar. Here you will be amongst some of the friendliest locals in Ireland, genuinely interested in making your stay in Aughrim something to write home about. There are regular live traditional Irish music se ions, with travelling musicians constantly welcome to come in and give us a tune! Hynes bar is full of old Irish memorabilia hanging from the walls and ceiling which includes artifacts from the famous 1691 Battle of Aughrim. The conclusion must be that a stay at Hynes Hostel and you have the Battle of Aughrim won! There are many facilities and places of interest in the vicinity. For leisure a game of snooker, pool, darts or cards. Play the numerous golf courses (Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Portumna to name but a few) in the vicinity. Visit Kilconnell Abbey, Clonfert Cathedral, Clonmacnoise, Aughrim Heritage center & Museum, the Ballinasloe Horse Fair (first week in October) and the Aughrim Music Festival (held on August Bank Holiday). Hynes Hostel & Bar stands on the battle site of Aughrim which is located about three miles from Ballinasloe. Come and enjoy a unwinding holiday with the warm warmth of your host Freda Hynes.
