Prices From $17.75, £10.04, €14.00 Accommodation Type: HOSTEL Kellys Hostel 25 Summerhill South Cork situated just a short walk from Cork's busy town center, Kelly's Hostel is probably the most colourful accommodation of any sort in the entire country. Yellow, blue, and green are the primary colours used, and the place positively radiates cheer and unwindation. The walls are literally covered in Celtic artwork, Irish family crests are painted on the walls with intricate detail, and the rooms are themed after some of the best known Irish poets, with their words decorating the walls. (For instance the luxurious double room at the top of the house is decorated with the words of Samus Heaney.) In all, the hostel has 20 beds. All of the rooms except for the Heaney room are non-smoking, as are the common vicinitys of the hostel. There is an vicinity reserved for smokers in the grounds too. If you're a budding chef and feel like keeping your culinary muscles in form while you're away on holiday, there's a fully fitted kitchen on the ground floor, right next to the sky-blue common room (that's it in the photo up there) where you can play che or various other board games, veg-out in front of the fire, listen to a cd, or even watch a video if you're REALLY determined to do as little as po ible. Kelly's doesn't believe in silly things like curfews or lockouts or anything like that - if you're out having a good time you'll still be able to get back in at the end of the night. (All that's asked is that you have some degree of consideration for the other visitors). The Samus Heaney room comes with tea, coffee and hot-chocolate making facilites, and the kitchen has a similar facility for visitors staying in the other rooms. (All free, of course). If you need laundry done then it's just 4 for a inclusive load to both wash and dry. There's as well tons of tourist info offered in the hostel too, as well as info on bike rent and tours.One of the most memorable things about Kelley's is the ambience - it's a little hostel and has no pretensions to being otherwise, and therefore everybody can get to know everybody else quite quickly, so it's a very sociable place to be. Some of the best music pubs in the town are very nearbynear as well, making this one of the best places to be at any time of the year. |
