The Royal Hotel Kirkcudbright
St Cuthbert Street
Kirkcudbright
Dumfries
The Royal Hotel is located in the center of attractive Kirkcudbright, 40 km from Dumfries in the South West of Scotland. Kirkcudbright is, you will find, a most attractive town, and no matter which way you go from it, east or west, you will find acce to a nice coastal in a quiet county and of much historical interest. Kirkcudbright is the most historic burgh in the Stewartry with its first royal charter dating back to 1455, although St. Cuthbert is reputed to have established it's first church in the 7th century, thus providing its original name- Kirk Cuthbert. Although much of Kirkcudbright history can be studied from books or records, there are still, for the visitor, a great many lovely historic buildings to be examined and enjoyed, one being the well-preserved remains of the towns third castle- the McLellan, built in 1852 near Provost McLellan with stones from the Greyfriars priory, which is just acro the roadway. There is as well the 17th century Tolbooth and its adjoining houses with their quaintly rounded closes, some usual 18th century residences of local lairds, such as Broughton House, and whole streets of buildings whose designs provide a le on in Scottish domestic architecture over the last two centuries. A worthwhile visit is as well to the restored Harbour Cottage, which makes an fantastic showpiece for the work of the many distinguished artists and craftsmen who have, from time to time, made their homes in Kirkcudbright. The Hotel contains 17 bed rooms, all comfortably furnished; all rooms have colour tv, hairdryers, tea/coffee making amenities, and direct dial teletelephones as standard. A complimentary bottle of Girthon water (from local supplier, Girthon Manse, nearby Gatehouse of Fleet) welcomes each visitor on arrival. The hotel can as well provide and iron, ironing board and an alarm clock on request. The restaurant is located on the ground floor adjacent to our coffee lounge. The wood panelled room provides an intimate setting while the coffee lounge with its "living flame" fire provides an fantastic setting for aperitifs as well as after super drinks. In the early afternoon, the restaurant offers an "All You Can Eat Buffet Luncheon" offered Monday to Saturday. At weekends a full carvery menu is offered.
