Micklegate House
88 - 90 Micklegate
York
Micklegate House is not only perfectly situated, within a few few minutes walk of the rail station, with all the amenities you would expect of a great hostel.... it offers you the opportunity to stay in a superb Georgian mansion with a stone-flagged entrance hall, grand sweeping staircase, original panelled rooms, vaulted cellars and a fabulous rococo ceiling featuring Shakespeare’s head. Built in 1752, Micklegate House is said to be the most important Georgian residence south West of the River Ouse. The oak-beamed “Dungeons Bar” was once the kitchen, where servants prepared meals for the family and their visitors, before carrying them up the servants’ staircase and through the “hidden” doorway into the panelled dining room. We have a selection of rooms and, ranging from doubles up to 18 bed dorms. Our personal, candlelit basement bar is 400 years old and features beers from around the world, and really late closing at the weekends! Our 'Georgian Tea Rooms' are open Monday to Friday if you fancy a civilized cup of tea or a selection of hot & cold foods to keep you going. Come, stay and have a great time at one of the most historical Georgian houses in York!
